Valerian: Valeriana officinalis (L.)
Why valerian root? An extremely soothing herb, valerian root can support peaceful relaxation and normal sleep patterns in healthy adults. Valerian is also renowned for encouraging a healthy, calm, and relaxed mood.
Benefits: Valerian is often used to support healthy and normal sleep patterns. Valerian does have a very strong taste, so it is best used in tincture or capsule form, and it's the perfect "night cap" herb to provide healthy restful sleep and a soothed mood.
Formula:
CALMING NERVE TONIC
Valerian Valeriana officinalis: 1 ½ teaspoons
Skullcap Scutellaria lateriflora: 1 ½ teaspoons
Catnip Nepeta cataria: 1/2 teaspoon
A pinch of Cayenne pepper Capsicum annuum
Mix ingredients and prepare as standard infusion. Bring 1 ½ cups of water to a boil. Do not use an aluminum pot. Turn off the heat and pour the water over the herb. Cover the pot and let steep for 10 to 20 minutes. Strain the tea in a non-aluminum strainer. Use 4-6 tablespoons warm, 3-4 times a day and before bed. Store for no more than 24 hours in the refrigerator. Use as long as needed.
